Albom, Mitch. 2002. Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life’s Greatest Lesson. New York : Broadway Books.
Genre : Biography
Suggested Readers : Cycle 2 Secondary
The book is basically about Morrie Schwartz, a history professor at Brandeis University, who has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and is dying. A former student, Mitch Albom, who had become a fairly well known sports writer, heard about his teacher and decided to pay a visit. This visit soon turned into regular meetings, on Tuesdays. The book shares Morrie’s life lessons.
I read this book when it came out more than ten years ago and I read it again this year with even more emotion. This is a beautiful touching story that will make you cry. It teaches you life lessons and you will surely put it on your « best books I have ever read » list ! The only complaint I have about this book is that it wasn’t longer. I wanted to take more time and savor the wisdom and sweetness of this old man, but, like his illness’s swiftness, reading the book seemed to go by all too quickly.
Activities are on Edugroup for secondary 4 students.
